Mentorship is a key part of any startup accelerator.

Founders need access to people who have built companies, raised funding, entered new markets, and solved real business challenges. But for accelerator teams, managing mentorship manually can become difficult.

The challenge is not only matching startups to mentors. It is also scheduling sessions, tracking participation, measuring mentoring hours, and reporting impact.

This was the challenge MaGIC faced when running its Global Accelerator Programme.

About MaGIC’s Global Accelerator Programme

The Global Accelerator Programme, also known as GAP, was designed to support local and international startups that wanted to expand into the ASEAN region. The programme helped startups become investment-ready within 3 months.

Through the programme, startups gained access to weekly learning themes, regional investors, route-to-market partners, and experienced mentors.

Mentorship was always valuable to the programme. But before FutureLab, it was difficult to make mentorship compulsory because tracking the number of mentoring sessions was hard.

The Challenge: Scaling Mentorship Without Manual Tracking

For accelerator teams, mentorship becomes harder to manage as the number of startups grows.

Common challenges include:

  • Coordinating mentor and startup schedules

  • Tracking completed sessions

  • Managing rescheduled sessions

  • Reminding participants about upcoming sessions

  • Keeping a clear record of mentors and startups

  • Reporting mentorship hours as part of programme KPIs

Without the right system, teams need to spend time on manual follow-ups, spreadsheets, reminders, and reporting.

This makes mentorship harder to scale.

The Solution: FutureLab’s Mentoring Software

FutureLab partnered with MaGIC to support the Virtual Global Accelerator Programme Cohort 5.

With FutureLab’s mentoring software, MaGIC was able to make mentorship a more structured and trackable part of the accelerator experience.

The platform helped with:

  • Mentor and startup profiles

  • Session booking

  • Rescheduling

  • Calendar reminders

  • Mentorship tracking

  • Programme analytics

  • Reporting

This meant the accelerator team no longer needed to rely heavily on manual coordination.

The Impact

Based on data from Cohort 4 and Cohort 5, startups completed more than 500 mentoring sessions through FutureLab’s mentoring software.

The programme also supported:

  • 147 startups accelerated

  • 296 entrepreneurs impacted

  • 500+ mentoring sessions carried out

These numbers show how structured mentoring software can help accelerator teams turn mentorship from an informal support activity into a measurable programme component.

What Improved for the MaGIC Team

According to MaGIC’s Executive Accelerators, Technology & Innovation team, FutureLab reduced the need to allocate manpower to manual tasks.

The team highlighted several improvements:

  • Booking and scheduling became more seamless

  • Rescheduling became easier

  • Mentors and startups could add sessions to their calendars

  • Calendar reminders reduced forgotten sessions

  • The accelerator team could track mentorship hours for yearly KPIs

  • Portal analytics could be included in yearly reports

  • Mentor and startup lists were centralized in one platform

This is important because accelerators need more than activity. They need visibility.

They need to know who is meeting, how often sessions happen, and whether mentorship is contributing to programme outcomes.

Why This Matters for Startup Accelerators

For startup accelerators, mentorship is often one of the most valuable parts of the programme.

But without proper tracking, it becomes difficult to prove impact.

A mentoring platform helps accelerator teams:

  • Improve founder access to mentors

  • Reduce admin work

  • Track engagement

  • Measure mentoring hours

  • Support reporting

  • Improve accountability

  • Build a stronger mentor network over time

This allows accelerator teams to focus less on coordination and more on helping startups grow.

Conclusion

FutureLab helped MaGIC scale mentorship across its Global Accelerator Programme by making mentoring easier to manage, track, and report.

With FutureLab’s mentoring software, MaGIC was able to support 147 startups, impact 296 entrepreneurs, and facilitate more than 500 mentoring sessions.

For accelerators, universities, and ecosystem builders, the lesson is clear.

Mentorship works best when it is structured, easy to access, and measurable.
